Microsoft makes its play for developer hearts and minds
I feel I should note Microsoft's launch of Visual Studio .Net today. This is a landmark day for Microsoft, representing the official beginning of its attempt to win developers to its.Net architecture. Or rather, its attempt not to lose them in the transition to .Net, since the ubiquity of Windows and the popularity of its existing development tools means that Microsoft already effectively owns the developer community. All it has to do is carry them along, and .Net will prevail.
